Door Finishes

Choosing the right door finishes for your home.

Internal Doors:Internal doors create a pathway leading you from room to room, meaning an attractive and durable door is vital. A traditional and classic finish for an internal door is generally a veneer finish, either natural or made made wood but can be stained. A natural wood gives a timeless finish and can come in such a variety of door designs. Veneered doors such as oak or walnut will often be stained or varnished to give them both the finish and colour you want but also a hard wearing protective coating. An oak, veneer door can be finished in a wide range of stains and shades. A veneer door is elegant as the grains and textures in the wood adds character and a richness to your home.Painted finished doors are a slightly more modern look to traditional wooden doors as you can not see the natural elements within the wood as well. Door finishes as so vast these days and when it comes to a painted finish, you can choose from any paint colours, such as from Farrow & Ball or Little Greene. Lacquer finishes can be finished in an ultra matt, satin finish which has a 15% sheen or a high gloss which is a 100% sheen. With a painted finish, you can also match you architrave and frame to the colour of your door or you can contrast colours between your door, frame and architrave. Currently, it is very popular to have the same colour skirting to the frame and architrave of the door with either the same colour door or a slightly darker, contrasting shade.A high gloss finish is a very contemporary and modern finish where the door is polished by hand which can take up to 24 hours. This finish gives an extremely shiny finish which it is known for looking like a high gloss black piano. High gloss can also come in any paint colour you wish.External Doors:

Entrance doors to your home is the first impression and appearance that anyone sees. An exterior door can be in a veneered finish, lacquered or high gloss, however it must be coated with a protective coating which is weather resistant and hard wearing. Due to the wear and tear of an exterior door this coating makes sure the door is sealed and protected. A high gloss external door finish is striking and is a wow factor to the front of your home. If you do not want such a shiny finish to your external door you can have a 15% sheen which has a slight shine but is still sophisticated and classic. This is a lacquered finish and can be in any shade of colour you wish for.

A more contemporary style to choose for a front door is a lattice design. Lattice designs are a glass finish with two lattice designs on either side of the glass. The glass can be completely transparent, frosted or opaque, depending on the amount of privacy you would like. The finish of the frame and around the glass can be in many finishes such as a real metal finish, liquid metal, lacquered, high gloss or even veneer.
